 What Is The “FTL Series” Accompaniment CD?

 The “FTL Series” Accompaniment CD is a unique music resource project presented in the rich tradition of African-American and other cultural styles that embodies and elevates the heritage of Lutheran worship. Songs of praise and thanksgiving found in the vast repertoire of the Christian hymnody are transformed using elements of rhythm, timbre, and improvisation to create a soulful union of music expressive of God’s word and refreshing to the spirit. The project features 28 selections covering several seasons and occasions throughout the church calendar.

 Why Create The “FTL Series”?  

 There are several congregations who do not have access to music instruments or resources, or who have expressed an interest in incorporating additional sounds in their worship services aside from the traditional pipe-organ. The “FTL Series” is a solution congregations may find helpful, as it still provides them access to the traditional hymns (text and tune) in a style easily adaptable to their needs. Our goal is not to change the foundation of the original hymns, but to use various elements to transform their sound and presentation to appeal to a wider, more diverse audience.

How Can The “FTL Series” Help Reach The Youth And Young Adults In My Congregation?

When you compare today’s version of contemporary gospel music to contemporary gospel 20-30 years ago (ex. Kirk Franklin compared to Rev. James Cleveland), you can hear a difference in the styles and sounds used by some of today’s contemporary gospel artists and musicians. There is an element in today’s music that draws the attention of youth and young adults. The “FTL Series” utilizes a similar principle—enabling the sounds and rhythm to capture their attention while the hymn text delivers the spiritual message.

 What Should I Expect When I Use The “FTL Series” During A Service?

Each song on the disc begins with a full verse introduction of the melody and includes a short recap “signal” prior to the last verse. A Lyrics Booklet is included with the CD set and also features a reference listing of additional hymns that are interchangeable with the tune of selected titles.
